Understanding the basics of Desktop Publishing

As there are various types of publishing software, it is important to understand and use them for their primary purpose. Using Photoshop for more than just editing photos, for example, can be quite inefficient. There are three main types of Desktop Publishing software from the Adobe Suite (also called DTP for short). They are Photoshop, Indesign, and Illustrator. Photoshop is used primarily to edit and retouch images, to create website mockups and website effects. It is also ideal for resizing and cropping images. Indesign on the other hand is used to create content with multiple pages. For instance, books, magazines and brochures are made with Indesign. Last but not least, Illustrator is primarily used to make logos or illustrations.
